On 22 September, the Central Bank of Egypt invited the Board of Directors of UBAF to its premises in Cairo. This was a unique opportunity to organise a strategy seminar the day before.
The members of the Board of Directors, the General Management and the Senior Regional Officers were able to discuss UBAF's ambitions.
Firstly, they reviewed the countries considered strategic in order to identify the most promising markets for the Bank. Strengthening the relationship with these countries was another key point of discussion. Participants first explored how UBAF could build closer relationships with key players in the local economies and regulatory bodies. They then looked closely at the credit and financial security risks associated with operations in emerging markets and developing countries. Finally, an initial roadmap on ESG (environmental, social and governance) criteria and their integration into our practices was discussed.
This direct interaction between Board members and participants provided a wealth of information and a mutual understanding of our challenges. This collaborative approach will help us develop common strategies and align our vision for 2024 and beyond.
At the end of the seminar, Hamed Hassouna and his team from the Cairo office organised a client reception attended by members of the Board of Directors, General Management and UBAF's Senior Regional Officers. More than 150 guests attended, strengthening existing relationships with key players in Egypt's economic and financial fabric.
On 22 September, the Board of Directors met to congratulate UBAF on its work of the previous day. At the end of these two days of reflection, the participants of the seminar were invited to a dinner at the Abedin Palace by His Excellency Governor Hassan Abdalla, Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt and Chairman of the Board of Directors of UBAF. His Excellency extended a warm welcome to all the participants of the seminar and the Board meeting from their arrival to their departure. UBAF would like to express its gratitude to him.
This strategic seminar and this historic meeting of the UBAF Board in Cairo were an opportunity to reaffirm UBAF's roots in the Arab world, more than 50 years after its creation, and its desire to strengthen its links with Africa.
